A Baolee, near the old city of Delhi, 1801 This step-well or baoli, near the funerary complex in Delhi of Shaikh Nizam al-Din Aulia (1236-1325), is believed to have been built by the followers of the Saint. It is surrounded by a mosque and some tombs. The Daniells saw small boys dive into the water to retrieve coins, as they still do.
