Squirting cucumber (Ecballium elaterium) or exploding cucumber. If consumed in large quantities, this plant is poisonous. However, it is also used in herbal medicine to treat kidney complaints, heart problems, rheumatism, paralysis and shingles. Excessive doses has caused gastro-enteritis and even death. Its unusual common name derives from the ripe fruit squirting a stream of mucilaginous liquid containing its seeds as a means of seed dispersal, an example of rapid plant movement.[
